Pretty cool stuff. Could be a useful alternative for dumbbell swinging/medicine balls. The circular exercise he does looks pretty brutal too:

great idea

i think i would be tempted to use a couple of inner tube or the second half stuffed inside the firs the seal each one the same as the outside.....baring in mind i have a commercial gym and would have people using them far more

so thats a project in waiting...liked the finished look

m,aybe use something like hockey tape for the handles as duct tape tends to get slippery with sweat

Great vid Leeroy. This one had been on my drawing board for a long time, but I never got beyond the planning stage because I didn't want to work with sand or my fav., gravel. Rubber mulch-gotta get me some of that.

Couple mods:
1) Exposure to UV might cause the inner tube to crack and wear prematurely. I'd wrap the whole thing in duct tape. Even if UV were not a problem, did you ever smell inner tube?

2) The expensive Bulgarian bag also has wrist loops. I'd run a length of nylon webbing, with loops on each end, through the inner tube before tying it off with the zip ties. The webbing would take the strain of the swings instead of the inner tube=longer lasting Bulgarian bag.

It might be even more ghetto than folks like, but I'll cover mine in an old pair of blue jeans. Probably kids size, but I'ld like the texture better. Not sure yet how to secure the ends, but something like leather strap might work.

Actually, I found I have a starter one already. I own a nice fanny pack that will do the job just fine. I can easily load this up with 30 pounds of sand, it has many hand locations, or I can wear it. I can remove the sand bags when I want to use it as it is designed also. Jandd makes high quality packs, so I'm not worried about the stress of 30 pounds causing it problems. Image

I liked the water fanny pack, but I found a different fanny pack that I never use that has more the sausage shape to it. It weighs 28 pounds, that will do for now. I just put the sand in bags inside the fanny pack, it works well. Good stuff!

Just made one of these following his instructions (except I mixed gravel in with the rubber mulch) - took less than ten minutes and less than $20. Works great.

Cool. How much did it end up weighing? And does that weight feel about right for the exercises he shows in the video?
