 Post subject: II/NG FAQ Sticky?

I've thought about this for a while. Would it be a good idea to have sticky that is an FAQ for II and NG? Seems like a lot of people coming to the site have the same questions. I figured that those of us who own the books could all chip in and get one created. I'll start:

Which book should I buy?

Both books offer the same philosophy on getting stronger, faster, and better conditioned. They just focus on different tools to get you there.

Infinite Intensity focuses primarily on weights (dumbbells), sandbags, and bodyweight. If you want to use weights, get Infinite Intensity.

Never Gymless focuses primarily on bodyweight exercises. If you don't want to use weights or don't have access to weights, this is the book you'll want.

Both books offer a template that you can use to get you started on the workouts. Most of all, both books give you the information that you need to create your own workouts based on your specific goals.


Other than the tools, what else is different about each book?

Never Gymless has a great chapter on nutrition while Infinite Intensity does not.

What results can I expect from using the workout in Infinite Intensity and Never Gymless? Can I get huge/lose fat/get jacked?

Both books give you the information that you need to achieve your specific goal. Like any workout you get out of it what you put into it. If your workouts are half-assed, your results won't be so stellar.

Having said that, do a search on the board here. Many people have posted their results after having incorporated the information in the books.

For anyone interested in the books, just buy both of them. You'll save money on shipping, and I gurantee that you'll find both of them very useful. :wink:

This holds true especially when you finish using the 50-day sample workouts and then plan your own training. There are elements from both books that will be very useful and will give you additional ideas for setting up your schedule. :D

I keep seeing this question come up too. BOTH books are very reasonably priced AND BOTH books are a welcome addition to my library. Possibly the only other book I recommend is Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength. With these three books you have all the information and workouts you could ever need.

It is nice of Ross to break down the difference in his two books, but for the price I think people should just get both. Other "experts" on the net charge outrageous prices for less information than what is offered by Ross.

Has anyone tried to run the two 50 day workouts together?

Day 1 of II followed by Day 1 of NG; then both day 2's and so on for a 100 day program.

FBruno, did you try that by now? Without knowing more than the outlines of II this looks like a good idea to me. Mixing things up is almost always for the better. Report your outcome, please

One thing to keep in mind: If followed literally, it would mean 8 days of training followed by 2 days off.

Keep in mind that the sample plans are just that (samples)...

Ultimately, the tools that you choose are simply a means to an end. Do not view NG and II as separate from each other, simply because the sample workouts are different. Ultimately, the sample plans serve as visual demonstrations to the principles discussed throughout (ex. the need to target various strength qualities, the importance of conditioning, the importance of core training, etc.).

I encourage you to blend the ideas from each, rather than assuming the two cannot work together. Target specific goals (per your needs), and then pick and choose the best methods to achieve these objectives.

I got NG and II at the beginning of January and have been training on a split week basis with both sample plans(NG...II...NG....II...etc). I have loved all of the training sessions, as hard as they may be!

I got both books at the beginning of January and have been running a NG-II-NG-II.... schedule every other week(NG-W1,II-W2...) Intense Training Sessions, and I love every one of them.

Hey all.

Don't mean to beat this topic to death, but....

In regards to weights in II.
I like doing my workouts at the track.
Are the workouts something that I can just bring a heavy plated dumbell w/ me.
Or is it something that I need to be home to have access to a bench and or a barbell as well.

The workouts are only samples based on certain principles of training. You can adapt those principles to any modalities. There are no rules, only options.
