So the gym I trained at has moved further away, which has left me thinking about maybe training someplace new. I have a blue belt in BJJ, so I wanted to learn to box to gain some comfort striking. One of the gyms I found is run by a guy named Fahness Lutalo. A couple red flags I've found...

1. The gym teaches something called Zulu Kai, which is apparently a mix of boxing, Dambe boxing (no idea), Muay Thai, Nuba wrestling (again, no idea), Brazilian grappling (sounds like a bullshit version of BJJ), and Filipino weapons. An ecletic mix for sure.

2. They have an extensive belt rank system.

3. Under his accomplishments it says:
Quote:
* Former undefeated KIckboxer
* Certified 7th Degree Black Belt
* In only 3 years coach Lutalo has produced:
2 Heavy weight champion titles
1 light weight champion
1 super heavy weight 2nd place finalist
2 Welterweight 2nd place finalist
14 amateur fighters, and
2 professional fighters (1 MMA, 1 Boxing)

No mention of where he kickboxed (I can't find any mention of him online) and no mention of who he got his blackbelt from, or what he got it in. And to produce that many "champions" in 3 years?

However, he is listed as a licensed USA boxing coach. What exactly does that entail? He does offer classes that are just straight up boxing, not this "Zulu Kai" stuff. Anyone have experience with this guy?

Here's his site: http://www.ocboxingacademy.com/

If anyone knows of any other boxing gyms in north Orange County CA, let me know.

Just one bump back to the top and I'll let it go.

Hey, even if you haven't met/heard of the guy, what is everyone's opinion based on the website? What does USA licensed boxing coach mean?

Hey KC,

This is not my profile, as I dont frequent this website, but my sister's. Anyway, I was searching for Fahness's website when I came across this post. I go to that Gym, and if you call me at 845 519 4715, I can give you an extensive review.

My last trainer was an ex world champion( who gave me hour sessions for 30 dollars(this is back in NY), so I consider my standards high and I can say I'm pleased with this new trainer. He's definitely the best in Orange County I can tell you that. But yeah give me a call, unless you already went here lol.
